My back is terribly uncomfortable. The once trusted navy blue cushion has failed to comfort me in any way and now only hinders my freedom of movement. Giving up, the rest of my body collapses and I look out the window. It seems tonight I’ve gotten lucky.
The moon is absolutely stunning. A perfect sphere casting off a sharp lavender yellow glow with dark slate craters that look like holes in swiss cheese. A delightful sighting for the unsuspected.
I grab my laptop to record the feeling down and as I lay my fingers on the keyboard, I look back to make sure I’m still angled correctly. To my surprise, dark string like clouds are making their way over the surface, darkening spots here and there and playing a trick on my already skeptical vision.
I decide to record it as quickly as possible and by the third time I look up the moon has completely disappeared. The clouds have smothered the entire surface like smoke trapped inside a burning oven. I squint my eyes to try and capture the remnants of light but it’s already too late. I’ve lost my chance.
I let out a soft sigh and return to my gaze to the screen, trying to gather up the last few details fresh from my memory. Yes. The lavender yellow glow, the dark craters, the ghost like clouds…it’s all coming back to me.
I see it clearly in my mind’s eye, but no matter how hard I try I can’t transfer it. Not the image, not the feeling, not the light.
My eyes are tired, my mind weary. I feel my chest tightening as my heart grows heavy…
Why can’t I sleep?
